- Title: Arriving on a Tropical Island
- Arranger: Valentin Candia Mahn
The Poeldijk boat is shaped like a tropical island. It couldn’t be more fitting, because Poeldijk actually is an island! Next time you visit this charming village, take note: you always cross the bridge to get there!
The 21-year-old (!) arranger Valentin Candia Mahn put his creativity to good use to transform the boat into a colorful tropical surprise! Featuring a palm tree, swinging monkeys, and a charming little flowered vest. There’s also a cockatoo with a beautiful crest. Every detail was carefully considered, since the palm tree has to navigate under the many bridges that dot Westland and the surrounding area. And of course, you want everything to stay intact so the public can continue to enjoy all the beautiful Westland products as much as possible. The construction team managed to pull this off. Also important: the island is exposed to the elements for three days. So that was taken into account when choosing the products.
The crocodile is made of chicken wire and covered with moss. The snake is also made of chicken wire and covered with gray-blue thistles. The beautiful butterflies are covered with seeds. And the waterfall at the front is supplied with water by pumps.
As is tradition, there’s always a big party on the boat: that’s what the Poelukkers love! They love interacting with the audience more than anything! They want to get the crowd in the best possible mood, and what better way to do that than with tropical music and dancing peacocks.
