Participants

The Varend Corso Westland features many different types of participants: businesses, growers’ associations, villages, hamlets, municipalities, and youth groups. These participants take part in a category of their choice. The parade features the following categories: Parade Boats, Small Vessels, Sailing Westlanders, and Special Vessels. You’ll find more information at the bottom of this page.

This year, the Varend Corso Westland will be more than just a parade of beautifully decorated boats. Under the theme “One Big Adventure,” all participants will come together for the first time to create a single, grand story. Each boat represents its own chapter in an adventurous journey of discovery full of surprises, encounters, and challenges. This creates a unique fantasy world along the route that takes visitors on an adventure from start to finish.

The journey begins with a mysterious invitation to set out on a voyage of discovery. Armed with a map, a compass, and a suitcase, the adventurers leave the safe harbor and set sail for unknown destinations. Along the way, they encounter impressive sea creatures, visit exotic islands, hidden temples, and magical fields of flowers, and set out in search of secret treasures. A new chapter full of wonder awaits around every bend.

Of course, any great adventure also has its obstacles. Pirates, rapids, sea monsters, and mysterious curses put the travelers to the test. But thanks to courage, friendship, and teamwork, they manage to overcome every challenge. Eventually, they reach their final destination: a legendary city of gold. With this innovative concept, Varend Corso Westland offers visitors a more immersive experience than ever before, in which all participants come together to tell one great story: One Great Adventure.

Corso boats

Corso boats sail along under a title that falls within the theme. The flat westlanders who traditionally brought fresh produce to the auction are used for this purpose. However, the boats are made up almost unrecognizable with décor and products, with the products clearly part of the décor. Think of produce as flowers, plants, vegetables, fruits and seeds. The dimensions of these boats are about 2 meters wide and between 7 and 15 meters long.

Sailing Westlanders

These unique historic ships, equipped with hatches, movable mast and swords on the sides are beautiful to see sailing by themselves. For this reason, these boats are only generously made up with Westland product while keeping the look of the boat itself intact. Therefore, these boats do not sail under the theme of the parade and thus remain clearly recognizable.

Small vessels

Traditionally, a number of small craft are also part of the parade. These are often sloops or vlets smaller than 7 meters. Participants richly decorate their craft with fresh produce.

Special vessels

Within the parade, there is also definitely room for special vessels. Consider a pontoon sloop that manages to sail independently or is carried by a tugboat. In this way, a highly original set piece can sail through the waters, naturally featuring flowers and vegetables prominently.
